June 15 - Rehearsal Plus

Today was rehearsal day, the first time we've all been together (and in fact this year there were no scheduled Regional or other subgroup rehearsals before the trip).  We started at 9:30 just like a regular chorus rehearsal, with physical and vocal warm-ups.  We sang one song and then broke into section rehearsals for an hour to work out our own part-specific rough spots.  Then we got back together to tackle our 11-song repertoire.  But even with a 1.5 hour lunch break and a choreo session after lunch, we still managed to finish before our planned quitting time at 4 pm.  It was exhausting though (guess I still don't have my stamina back after the shoulder injury).

A friend of Patsy's, Marcus Beckmann, came to our the last hour or so of the rehearsal.  He is the former director of a women's chorus, the Barberlights.  After rehearsal, a small group of us sat and talked with Markus, and then ended up going to a restaurant next to the hotel for dinner, the same one where I had my eye-opening champagne-opening experience two days ago.  It was a nice evening for sitting on the terrace, and I ordered a curry wurst--thanks for that suggestion, Marge.

After dinner, we met in the hotel lounge/lobby at 9:00 because we'd had an invitation from the bar staff to sing then, so we performed three songs and then Viel Gluck because one of the hotel guests had a birthday today.

Of course, everyone stayed to enjoy an after dinner schnapps (or other beverage of choice), but not to long because we have a 7:00 am "good morning" call to be sure we are at the bus for our 8:30 am departure for the city tour.
